As owner and farmer, Max runs the day-to-day logistics of the operation while also paving the way for the future of the farm. His interest in sustainable agriculture was sparked while studying Environmental Studies at Fort Lewis College. After graduating in 2014, he completed a 6-month apprenticeship at Indian Ridge Farm in Norwood, CO. Since starting High Pine in 2016, Max has continued to grow the business and hopes to expand into more regenerative agricultural practices in the coming years. When he’s not in the field or at the farm stand he enjoys the many outdoor activities our area has to offer including skiing, biking, and rock climbing.
During his stint as an Environmental Studies major at Fort Lewis College, Russ interned at Twin Buttes Farm in Durango and fell in love with the rhythms of farm life. This past summer Russ successfully completed a 6-month apprenticeship with Max at High Pine and decided that he wants more! Russ will be helping out full-time this year and will be the primary caretaker of our plot at the Incubator field in Hesperus while we work to transition our operations to our new Mancos property. Russ’ favorite vegetable is broccoli and he balances the demands of farm work with ample time on the river.
